UGH. First new Ophiuchus. Woo.
Jeez laweez that one took all week to do. Mojo has been gone all week man. Seriously, this has been a fucking horribe week but with this comic done maybe things are on the uprise. I sincerely hope so.
Well, all that's left for this calendar week is a banquet tomorrow in Dallas and a benefit show to help my friend pay for the cost of her dog's medical bills. After that I'm locking myself in my room for a bit. I AM SICK OF PEOPLE!!!
...Just kidding. |
Guest Comic, Whoop!
July 16, 2010 [10:09pm] |
As I have been warning you all week, SUTBComics has a guest strip up coming up. Today is the day! Check out my (first ever) guest comic over at The Space Between!
Okay forgive me if I gush a bit but knowing my work is on another site that isn't owned by me is pretty cool. Well this can only mean good things for the future of Set Up The Bomb Comics so stay tuned.
As mentioned on the Ophiuchus page we're going to get back to the action on Monday and see about easing into a schedule. I'm thinking running a few weeks (or months) of Monday and Friday updates and then moving to MWF after a few weeks or so. I like the freedom of post whenever but a schedule puts readers into a routine. But eh we'll see how this little experiment works! Also I'm looking into installing a C-Box on the SUTBComic page so you can comment on the posts and comics and whatever. Yeah. We'll see how that works out. See you Monday (or sooner if I get a cast pic done)

New Poor Ophiuchus! Check it out!
So hey remember the main thing with this website is that it's a journal following my attempts to create a graphic novel right? Well I'm putting the pieces together on the first Interplanet Gazette update. Yeah I'm going to slowly piece bits and pieces of a website and other stuff as I work down towards the day when the Interplanet Gazette hits shelves for the first time. If you've ever seen the Team Fortress 2 updates, it'll be something like that. I've already wrote down what will be in the first update. It'll be a three-part, three-day deal. When will it be done? Let's not get our hopes TOO high but I don't think it'd be too crazy to say it could start by the 21st.
I do have plans for Ophiuchus. To tell the truth I want to eventually (my which I mean by the end of the chapter) have it on a regular schedule. I think I could swing a MWF. Draw one day color and post the next and keep that cycle running. I dunno we'll see.
On Friday my guest comic goes up with The Space Between. It's sorta exciting and eh at the same time. I'm excited to have a guest comic up but I wish I had more than three pages of Poor Ophiuchus up to show off. My webcomic is a baby y'all! Oh well.
IRL, life is meh. I need more snacks. And Mexican Pizza. OH SHIT! THAT'SWHATINEEDTOEATtalktoyoulaterbye...

Funny

I could have sworn I mentioned something about quitting the webcomic game. GUESS THAT WAS A BIG FAT LIE because if you click here you'll see there's a brand new page of Poor Ophiuchus. I even built a wiki page for it. I clearly don't know how to quit.
I also clearly don't know how to multi-task because the Interplanet Gazette work has ground to a halt while I've been scrambling to build the Ophiuchus page. Now that the foundation of that has been set I can get back to work on scripting this book. Holy jeebus. Well I mean not tonight. I have a scholarship essay that I need to have done by 7am tomorrow so that's where my energy is going tonight. Hey if I win that's a free 250 bucks. I NEED THAT MONEY. I AM UNEMPLOYED.
Oh yeah! BIG NEWS! Actually TWO big news(es?). The first one is that I did a guest comic for The Space Between (which is half the reason Poor Ophiuchus even exists) and that'll be running sometime next week or the week after. When that happens check it out! Also check out Space, it's a pretty cool comic. It's very slice-of-life and I am a fan of those sorta comics.
The other big news is SUTBComics is con bound! I have plans to attend Dallas Comic Con at the end of August. It's my inaugural con and I'll just be going as a guest but it'llo be good for me to get the vibe of how a con feels. I'll be wearing something easily identifyable (most likely a 1-up Shroom with my Tampa Bay Devil Rays hat) so if you wanna say hi to me you can.
Well that's all for tonight. Go check out Poor Ophiuchus and I'll see you next time I post. |
The Word Static Means Nothing Here

Yes, another one. Don't ask why just go with it. Well there is a reason for this one. Mostly streamlining. Even though eventually the streamlining will get unstreamlined as soon as the Interplanet Gazette website goes up (though that won't be happening until the book is damn near done). So floating blocks are in right now right? I guess they'd have to be.
You may have noticed the gold has changed to be a bit lighter. I figured since neither of my blues were generic web colors, the gold shouldn't be either. The net effect of this though is that my colors look similar to the new Golden State Warriors colors. I've been rocking the double blue and gold for longer than that look has been out so I call firsties. Also the colors I used were borrowed from Wikipedia's List of Colors. (Cobalt and I think the yellow is canary. The background blue and the dark blue are custom colors) Now updates on the two projects that are currently going on SUTBComics.com.
First, Poor Ophiuchus. I'm working on another page and it should be up sometime this week. I think you should be able to count on one page every 7-10 days.
Next the big one...The Interplanet Gazette! Well so I finished summarizing right? I get ready to start scripting and just get boned with writer's block. I began asking myself alot of questions about why I did alot of things with the script. Why does (censored) happen. Why does Jay (spoiler)? The answer for far too many of them was "no reason". The characters were taking too long to be introduced, the motivations were being set way too late and the main plot of the series didn't start until like the second to last chapter. My storytelling style is heavily influenced by two main things: School Rumble and my Improv Club. Both of them made a point to introduce characters early and their motivations are made clear fairly early. That way you have the rest of the plot to dedicate to humor or plot twists with strong establish characters. The first draft didn't do that. So...long story short. I flushed two weeks of work down the drain. Thankfully the second draft is mostly a small tweaking and the major plot points are the same so it didn't take nearly as long to write. |

SO WHAT IS SUTBCOMICS?
|
| Set Up The Bomb Comics is the comic/webcomic brand of Eric W. Merritt (that's me!) Currently SUTBComics is a journal of my attempt at creating a graphic novel. It also has a subdomain website that contains the webcomic, Poor Ophiuchus, which I update about once a week or so. |
